8 Days with 3 Days Trekking

DAY 1: Arrival on Socotra- Delisha Sandy Beach/Overnight at Delish eco-lodge

Meeting you at the airport, you’ll be given a true Socotri welcome with lunch in the capital city Hadibo. After that, we will drive you to Delisha eco-lodge. Once full & your luggage settled into nights’ accommodation, we’ll head out to Delisha Beach; you can relax and walk in the surrounding area. You will also enjoy sunbathing, swimming, and climbing a dune and you can watch a beautiful sunset.

DAY 2: Wadi Dagenhan / Kishan/ Adoho Dema'alah

In the morning, we will make our way to the base of Haggier Mountain range to begin our 3 days trek. The Haggier Mountain range is truly something to behold, with sharp peaks, wadis of different sizes, beautiful rock formations, and lush green vegetation. The mountain air is much more relaxed than in the lowlands so it can be refreshing. We will visit some traditional Socotri villages along our trek. We will camp overnight at various locations. After loading our stuff on a camel, we will hike for 3 to 4 hours. On the way to Kishan, we expect to cross wadis, walk among the endemic plants such as Croton Socotramo and Adinum, and pass by a granite wadi. Lunch in Kishan. After the picnic, we will carry on to Adoho Dema’alah, some 600 meters.

DAY 3: Fa’arh Peak / Wadi Di-Azaqaloh- Wadi Di- Haza’az

The following day we will trek to the most beautiful and exciting area, which is the Fa’arh Peak. Fa’arh has a high vegetation density; you will be astonished by a jungle of huge plants. Also, it has the highest peak on the island, which reaches 1525m above sea level.Then we continue the hike to Wadi Di-Azaqaloh- with a beautiful view of the dragon blood trees and the mountain range. We can cool off and have lunch at the water pond called the Wadi Dahmedeher. After lunch we will continue trekking through the canyon Where we can see an amazing Socotra endemic plants.The lush canyon floor has been planted with palm trees, in the shade of which lay Bruce’s Green Pigeons and Laughing Doves.

Day 4: Wadi Masa’abah- Fermhin Forest

After a hearty breakfast, will resume the hike along the canyon for a round 3 hours then we will stop for an hour to enjoy swimming in a natural swimming pool . After that we will continue hike till we reach Wadi Masa’abah where we meet the car and the driver . Afterwards, we will drive up to Fermin forest which is the last woodland of Dragon Blood Trees. Nowhere else in the world can one find Dragon Blood Trees in such densities as you’ll do here. In afternoon, we will experience hiking inside the canyon and our local guide will show us how they collect the precious red resin of the trees.

DAY 5 : Derhur Canyon/ Dixam Plateau/ Dagub cave/ Omaq white sandy Indian ocean beach

After having a succulent Yemini breakfast, let’s get going to “Dirhor Canyon” (Dirhur) where you’ll find a natural pond and small lakes that are extremely inviting for a quick swim. The canyon is inhabited by birds of all kinds. Lush vegetation overgrows the canyon – look like a tropical garden. If you are a nature lover, it would feel like paradise. We will spend few hours in the canyon swimming and hiking. After that ,we will head to the less populated southern coast of Socotra to the beautiful turquoise blue Indian Ocean and a place of endless white sand beaches. A relaxing afternoon awaits you; you can rest in the shade of palm trees or fully enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and exploring the surroundings. At sunset, we will visit the beautiful sand dunes near the village of Hayf. A beautiful place that evokes a sense of calm is incredibly photogenic. Depending on the time, we will visit the Dagub cave today or tomorrow morning on our way inland. At the entrance to the cave, the most valuable item of the dry south coast – pure water – flows down the impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations. Digub cave is also a popular meeting spot for locals and enjoy a picnic or a cup of tea.

DAY 6 : Wadi Defarhu / Kalisan Canyon & Homhil Protected Area

Today, we travel from the south of the island towards the north, crossing Wadi Defarhu, where we can spot traditional villages, date palms, natural freshwater pools at the bottom of the valley, and desert rose trees clinging to the canyon walls. Our next stop is Canyon and pools. Once we arrive in the canyon, we’ll take an easy walk and you’ll be blown away with the beauty of the landscape. Expect to see a spectacular riverbed and natural pools at the bottom where we can swim, chill or get some adrenalin jumping from the ledges into the crystal-clear water below. After a tasty picnic lunch, we’ll have a short climb up back to the cars.

Next stop is Homhil Plateau – a terrestrial protected area offering real prehistoric vibes. Around a 2 hours’ drive Homhil is the northeastern tip of the island with a large concentration of Dragon’s blood trees (Dracaena Cinnabar), desert rose and frankincense trees. It’s also home to natures finest infinity pool! We should reach Homil at golden hour for some gorgeous photo opportunities. The local children will be around if you want to buy dragon blood resin and frankincense.

DAY 7: Homil infinity pool, Wadi Shifa , Arher freshwater creek and beach camp

After breakfast , We’ll take a little climb in the dragon blood tree territory, amongst hundreds of jurassic looking trees to be treated to a refreshing dip in the natural infinity pool, overlooking the valley to the Arabian Sea. The pool water is so clean and refreshing, and its probably the most beautiful infinity pool you’ll ever see. Once refreshed, we’ll hike for a couple of hours down along Wadi Shifa. Meeting the car, we then head to Arher; envision the whitest sand, a beautiful long beach, stunning blue waters with sand dunes that blend into the ocean. The is the highest dune on the island, challenge yourself to climb this behemoth, head for a swim in the sea or simply relax on Arher beach to see if you can see the spinner dolphins go by. A small freshwater stream feeds into the ocean, where you can rinse off the salt & sand. Lunch picnic will be served in Arher .

At around 3 o’clock , we will we will drive to nearby Dihamari marine protected area, boasting one of the richest coral reefs on the Socotra. Snorkel around the bay to see what you can find hiding in the reef, Parrotfish, Moray eel, Rays, and Sea urchins are in abundance & if you are lucky, you will meet one of the three species of turtles found on the island.

DAY 8: The Fond Farewell

After a final delicious breakfast in Dihamri , we’ll bid our farewells to this glorious island as we head back to the airport. On the way, we can stop off at a heritage and souvenir shop run by Socotri women, an initiative to allow the island women to support themselves creating a livelihood, for any last-minute souvenirs.
